Upcoming Shows and successful kickstarter!!!!

Thnak you so much for all your amazing contributions for my new album! I really could not have done this with out all of your help. Thank you all who contributed! I made over my goal I made a whopping $3,780! I have budgeted about $5000 for this album so every bit over my goal helps!

I have some shows coming up that I would love for you to come out to. The waltz ball will be performing at the Drowned Ball hosted by Gemini and Scorpio on April 21st, a guaranteed to be a fantastic event, she has planned amazing acts, get your best victorian dress out! Then the next weekend my band will be performing in my neighborhood at Branded Saloon on April 27th, i will be joined the all star cast of Rima Fand, Brandon Seabrook, Raphael Mcgregor and Jason Sypher! Then Hoppin’ John will make an appearance in New York on April 28th, we usually only play in very small unknown countries with the US state Department. We will be playing at the most beautiful Museum of Natural History in Manhattan. Alicia Jo will not be with us because she will have a very new born baby, so Rima Fand will be standing in.

Lastly, I will be having my CD release party the end of July, venue TBA, but I dreaming about an outdoor space, my dream would be a huge rooftop big enough to have a BBQ, private theatre spots tucked away in the corner, cocktail stands a big stage and overhead all the stars that a new yorker can see plus the skyline of beautiful NYC! That’s my dream, I’ll let you know how it turns out!

Thank you for supporting me, I have been happier than a clam working on this project and happier even more so knowing that i soon will be having it in a form that i can send out to all of you lovely people.

Happy Spring to you all
Sarah

    THE BANDS :
Forro in the Dark (pronounced Fo-Ho) pays homage to this playful and emotional genre’s rich history, while also making party music for today’s global village. They update the traditional accordion, zabumba, and triangle instrumentation popularized by the great forró artists like Luiz Gonzaga and Jackson do Pandeiro.
Abandoning the accordion, they’ve added Jorge’s pifano, a wooden flute from the Northeast of Brazil, Guilherme’s twangy guitar, and Davi’s timbau, a Bahian drum. The new additions float between the beat of Mauro’s zabumba, a drum with both snare and bass pitches, and the tweet of Davi’s triangle.
Raya Brass Band does it on the dance floor, mashing up the music of Eastern Europe with American dance grooves. Featuring odd meters, unusual scales and a fine helping of gorgeous Balkan and Romany (Gypsy) melodies played on reeds, trumpet, accordion, tuba and drums, Brooklyn favorites Raya Brass Band brings you the best in Eastern European wedding music.“…There’s been a buzz about this band lately and it’s well-deserved…These guys took [the party] up a notch.” –Lucid Culture
    Eva Salina Primack http://evasalinaprimack.com/
Featuring the versatile and soulful vocals of Eva Salina Primack, this new project presents a collection of tunes mostly from the Balkans, played by some of New York’s finest musicians: Eva Salina Primack (vocals), Frank London (trumpet), Patrick Farrell (accordion), Ron Caswell (tuba), Rich Stein (percussion). Not your average Balkan brass Band… old songs, not-so-old songs and enough attitude for 10 people.

The Golden Angel Waltz Orchestra presents the WALTZ BALL on Valentine’s day! Yes that’s right only waltzes all night long. Waltzes that are from all over the world, dense in sound, seemly sweet but sometimes chaotic and always in ‘3′. We also have the most cutting edge dance instruction, charming visual aids and step by step verbal instruction. We have a quite a show that will engage even the most curmudgeon of a fella to experience the joys and silliness of our waltz ball. You all will have the opportunity to wear your most beloved fancy party dress that you never get to wear, you’ll get the chance to share your secret waltz obsession, and most of all to share in silly night of delightful music and dancing.

Waltzing will begin at 8:30pm sharp and go till we are too dizzy to stand. We strongly encourage the singles and love birds to to dance the night away with strangers, secret admirers, and friends.

Balkan Shout Out APRIL 16th 2011
We are very excited and proud to present the highly anticipated “Balkan Shout Out”! April 16th, 2011

This year we will be featuring Debo Band from Boston with their unique interpretations of classic Ethiopian popular music. Veveritse Brass band will transport us to the balkans with lively Romany Music for your dancing pleasure. Rima Fand and friends will open the evening with beautiful singing from the Balkan region.

The “Balkan… Shout Out” will take place in the heart of Manhattan at the Ukranian National Home where you can sip the finest Eastern European beer and enjoy dancing all night long. Come early for a dinner of Borsht and pierogi in the restaurant and stay late for drinking and dancing to some of the finest music in New York City.

“The Balkan Shout Out” is a fundraising event to benefit the EEFC (East European Folklife Center). The EEFC has been a home to Balkan music, dance and culture in United States for the past 25 years. The Balkan Shout Out, has been conceived to do just that: give a shout of thanks out to those who have helped in nurturing New York’s thriving Balkan cultural community.

Veveritse Brass Band

http://www.myspace.com/veveritsebrassband

Veveritse Brass Band finds its inspiration in the drama of the Romany(Gypsy) music of the Balkans. With an eye to the powerful exactitude of these melodies, Veveritse makes room for play. Slippery, squirrelly even, they may start off running almost too fast, only to drop the bottom out; what begins sonorous and jagged straightens up, and carries you into the night….dancing, sighing. With two trumpets, a saxophone, four mid-horns, a tuba and two drummers, they are ten deep, creating not a wall of sound, but a loud tapestry.

Debo Band

http://deboband.com/

Debo Band brings together the best of 1970s Ethiopian funk with brass band fun, in this 11-piece Ethiopian-American led, Boston-based collective. With an unusual instrumentation of accordion, saxophone, low brass, and violins, the ensemble plays classic tunes led by a compelling male vocalist.

Amazing review of Luminescent Orchestrii and Carolina Chocolate Drop EP

“More than anything, this collaboration is a tribute to the power of music to bring people together. This is social music, made for backyard barbecues in the country, rooftop romps in the city, and block parties the world over. No matter the locale, put on this disc and folk will be dancing, laughing, and, if they’re lucky, maybe even sharing some chicken and wine later in the night.”
